General Membership Meeting Minutes
October 18, 2021
General Meeting – 7:30 p.m.
Video Presentation
● The meeting opened with a video of the Friday Night Lights halftime show
Approval of Minutes
● The minutes from the September 2021 meeting were unanimously approved by voice
vote with no opposition
Treasurer’s Report
● The Treasurer’s Report is available on the SMPA web site
● Income to date reflects membership dues and donations
● Concessions numbers on the current report are incorrect and will be revised; total revenue
to date this year is $11,084 which is approximately $7,000 net of expenses
Scholarships
● Applications for SMPA scholarships such as Merola and Lenox Underground are due on
Monday, 10/25/21
Pledge Day
● Will be held 10/24/21
● Meet at SHS cafeteria at noon and wear clothing that will identify the students as SHS
● Students will canvas in pairs; no one will be expected to approach a door alone
● Students leave behind a door hanger if the door is not answered
● COVID protocols: max of 4 students in a car, masks should be worn in the car; if
students are not comfortable in other parents’ cars they can be driven to the start of their
route
Vice President Report
● Auditions for select groups are being held at SHS and LCJSMS
● We are pleased to report that concerts this year will be performed in person, with a
livestream alternative; all ensembles are preparing for holiday concerts
Chorus Report
● Congratulations to five SHS students who were selected for All-State Chorus
Band Report
● Mr. Bocchino was unable to attend tonight due to Big Band auditions
● Move-down day recently was held as a first field trip
● SMPA car magnets are being sold
● LCJSMS band students are being welcomed at next Thursday’s SHS band practice
● We have received positive feedback from Warren Hills regarding our hospitality to their
band at this year’s game
● We are encouraging interest and participation in Color Guard
Orchestra Report
● Chamber orchestra auditions recently were held
● Orchestra council is designing a new logo
● CJMEA auditions are upcoming – 12/11/2021 – applications should be in to SHS by the
end of October
● Clinicians will be welcomed in January/February 2022 to work with both the string
orchestra and chamber
LCJSMS Report
● LCJSMS BOC is in full swing; we have held Move-Down Day and Move-Up Day which
were successful
● On 11/11/21, Bel Canto, the 8th grade octet and the 8
th grade band are being incorporated
into the Veterans Day assembly – this will be viewable by 8th graders only
● The 7th and 8th grade holiday concerts will be held on 12/14/21
